The Power of Knowing What You Want

It's all in the name..."The Power of Knowing What You Want" is another tool that helps you get clear on what you want! You may be asking why clarity in what you want is important, the reality is that most people only know what they don't want in their lives. Therefore that is what they focus on and attract in their lives.

By getting clear and focusing on what you want, whether it's physically, emotionally, a state of being, you won't be distracted by the things do not serve you and you will begin to attract the things you want into your life.

You will be amazed at how this simple shift will affect your life. You can use this tool in many aspects of your life - career, relationships, finances, & health. I have outlined the step-by-step process below using home buying as an example.

To get clear on what you want -

1. Draw a medium sized circle on a blank piece of paper, or use this template.

2. On the inside of the circle, write down everything you do want (certain location, convenience, bus stop, no HOA's, family neighborhood, open floor plan, views, amenities, finishes & fixtures, flooring, basement, etc.)

3. On the outside of the circle, write down everything you do not want (highway noise, low ceilings, close neighbors, stress, hassle, high HOA's, etc.)

At the end of the day, a real estate investment is a big step and can be a stressful process. Why not set yourself up for success and go into the process with a clear understanding of what you want and see what happens!

Core Values

If you didn't know, I am a firm believer in core values! What is great about core values is that they can be incorporated into all aspects of your life - personal, relationships, family, & career. While I have added and subtracted core values over the years, these three have always remained at the top -

1. Nature

2. Community

3. Connection

I strive to incorporate at least one of the above core values into my every day life because when I am living into my core values, I am being true to who I am. My core values help me when I need to make tough decisions, and help me determine my thoughts and actions.

How are core values related to real estate!?

At the end of the day if you are buying or selling a house, there are certain items that are non-negotiable, and on top of that, you have to make tough decisions. Take a look at some of the core value examples below and how they relate to the buying and selling process!

Values For Buyers

+Family (certain neighborhood, location, extra space

+Entertaining (open floor plan, outdoor space)

+Nature (in the mountains, near the hiking trails)

+Peace/Tranquility (acreage, near a stream, large yard)

+Environment (green home, eco-friendly, solar power)

Values for Sellers

+Financial Freedom

As a seller you know that if you can get your home at a certain price you will have financial freedom to take your family on that dream vacation, further your kids education by supporting them through college, or maybe travel the world with your best friend.

Discover Your Core Values!

Start with a word bank, then select the top 10 words that stand out to you. Once you have those written down, narrow your list down to your top 3-5 core values, then define them using your own words. Write your core values down, put them in your phone, and remind yourself of them often.

Next Steps

Begin to notice areas of your life where you can incorporate your core values more! If you value connection, schedule a coffee date with an old friend!

If you are faced with a tough decision, such as buying or selling a home, which home to put an offer in on, what offer to take, remind yourself of your values and see how your decision making process might become easier!
